Why The F*ck Do I Support The Knicks

Carmelo Anthony, Jr Smith, and Kristaps Porzingis are all three of the reasons supporting the New York Knicks in the last ten years hasn’t been an 100% waste of my time, but easily 95% waste of my time. Hello, my name is Chema Garcia, and I have been a Knicks fans for a while now, and this is my story as to why I wouldn’t wish such a burden upon anyone. Above all I consider myself a loyal guy, I’ve never cheated on anyone, I sat through every Disney Star Wars movie, I once owned a Blackberry phone, and yes, I support the New York Knicks. It is completely understandable that you begin to question my sanity at this point, but just listen to my wisdom and learn from my mistakes. It all began when I was a kid and I was gifted a Knicks jersey, by some asshole who wanted to give me high blood pressure and zero expectations in life. From a young age I wore an oversized jersey from Ross Dress for Less and my toxic relationships with the Knicks began. It’s fair to say that the Knicks owners just don’t like their fans, it’s the only reasonable explanation, as to how in a league where the worst teams are given the best rookies to improve, the Knicks have sucked ass consistently for as long as I can remember.

I remember Porzingis getting drafted, and people thinking his name was Tingus Pingus and questioning whether he had a green card or not. At the time I had so little expectations that I just thought well another year of mediocrity it is, but wait our luck seemed to have changed for once. The Knicks seemed alright for a bit with Porzingod, and we had a savior to play alongside a “washed up” Carmelo Anthony. Well it was nice for a bit, kind of like Jeremy Lin, and the glory days of Pitbull, but once again good things just do not seem to last in Madison Square Garden. I don’t even recall the Knicks having a winning record in recent years, but what is crazy is how year after year we settle as a fan base for the undisputed worst basketball in the NBA. Porzingis has been ridiculous in Dallas, so why did we trade him? Was it worth it to get Dennis Smith Jr, because he’s mentioned in a J Cole song?

Look every year we hear that the Knicks are signing Durant or James or Leonard, and what do they all say? They say f*ck you, I don’t want to be booed by my own fans in MSG, and I don’t want to carry a franchise that has been dying since the 90’s. I can’t blame them, Knicks fans are ruthless and the media just plays with us and our life hopes every offseason. Last season was ultimately what made me give up hope on the franchise. The team has Durant and Irving available, and they had a great chance at bringing in Zion to create a ridiculous big three. Zion was drafted by the Pelicans, and Durant and Irving join our rivals Brooklyn Nets. Some Knicks fan must’ve pissed off basketball Jesus, because not a single good thing has happened to this franchise in years. Even Melo seventeen years into the league is balling out in Portland, and I just want to say we miss you and Kristaps man.

Should I give up hope on the Knicks? Should I be a bandwagon? Both seem like reasonable answers, but whoever is in charge of Knicks marketing convinced me to be let down another year with our slogan, “New York Forever”. By the way I’m from Miami, I have no valid reason to support these Big Apple clowns, but I’m a Knicks fan for life. The Chicago Cubs won a world series after over 100 years of draught, Jonah Hill lost and gained like 80 lbs. ten times in five years, and Jay Z is married to Beyonce, so miracles can happen. This year’s draft will probably be yet another let down with the 8th pick, but deep down some deluded part of me tells me “wear your Knicks jersey, and remind everyone that you support the most mediocre team in the NBA”. So why the f*ck do I support the Knicks? Well one day, one glorious day the Knicks will win the playoffs, and my hope is that it happens in the next 70 years so I at least get a chance to tell my friends, “I told you buying a Porzingis jersey would pay off”.
