Like Other Wide Receivers DK Metcalf Forgot That The Play Doesn’t Stop Until You Cross The End Zone
Today Russell Wilson threw an absolute 60 yard bomb that landed beautifully in DK Metcalf’s hands. DK had an easy touchdown, until he forgot that there was a DB right behind him. Instead of DK charging into the end zone with both hands on the ball, he lazily jogged with only one hand. The ball was popped out and it was ruled a touchback.
You would think that this was the first time that a wide receiver had a brain fart, and didn’t score a touchdown because of their own stupidity. Oh no there’s a long list of players that forgot to cross the end zone. Maybe it’s the multiple concussions or maybe these players are high as fuck while playing, but here’s other players that have either almost or have cost their team a touchdown.
The king of dropping the ball before the end zone is DeSean Jackson. As a die hard Eagles fan I’ve witnessed the roller coaster that is rooting for DeSean Jackson. There’s plays where he is the fastest and most dynamic receiver in all of football, and there’s plays where he forgets how to play football all together. Or he is dealing with a long list of injuries. During his rookie year in 2009, the Eagles were playing the Cowboys in week 2 on Monday Night Football. Donovan McNabb threw an absolute bomb as Jackson burnt past the Cowboys defense. As he ran into the end zone he casually dropped the ball on the 1 yard line. Thankfully Pac Man Jones didn’t grab the ball, and the Eagles kept possession on the 1 yard line. This wasn’t the first time Jackson did this in the 2005 Army All American game Jackson front flipped into the end zone. As he was flipping the ball hit the 1 yard line, and popped out of his hands. I mean if you’re going to be a dumbass, and drop the ball before going into the end zone you might as well make it cool and front flip.
In the 2000 Fiesta Bowl Chad Johnson dropped the ball while he was on Oregon State. The refs gave him the touchdown, but of course Notre Dame fans weren’t happy about it as in the replay you can hear Notre Dame fans booing. I mean Notre Dame fans being upset, is like saying water is wet. Everything is always unfair for the prim and proper Notre Dame fans.
In 2008 Marshall’s wide receiver Aaron Dobson scored a 96 yard touchdown thankfully nobody noticed until after the touchdown that he had dropped the ball before the end zone. Talk about dodging a bullet, one second you’re sucking down oxygen as you just ran the entire field for a touchdown, and then all of that hard work was for nothing. I don’t blame Dobson if my fat ass had to run 96 yards I would have zero oxygen to my brain, and pull something that dumb. What am I talking about there’s no way I could run 96 yards without dying of a heart attack.
There’s a long list of players who have done the same thing some of them being Tyrann Mathie when he tossed the ball to the ref before he scored in the SEC championship game, it wasn’t called. Kaelin Clay of Utah dropped the ball before the end zone, and the play was reversed giving the ball back to Oregon. Oregon charged down the field for a 100 yards, and tied the game at 7. Instead of being up 14-0, Oregon and Utah were tied at 7. Whoops.
DK Metcalf’s latest dumb play won’t be the last. Remember DeSean Jackson is still in the league.
