Is The Warriors Dynasty Over?!?

NBA free agency is live, and it’s what I imagine smoking crack is like.

Big things have happened Montrezl Harrell has gone to the Lakers, the Hornets are their normal dumb selfs and overpaid for an injury prone Gordon Hayward, and the Knicks were actually smart and didn’t do anything crazy. The biggest thing that has happened is that Klay Thompson blew his achilles, and is going to miss the entire season next year.

The injury bug keeps plaguing the Warriors, first it was KD who also blew out his achilles, Klay Thompson tore his ACL, and just as the Warriors thought they would be able to rebound this year with a healthy Klay…

It was just a couple of years ago that the Warriors had gone to the finals for 5 consecutive years. Now it looks like they might miss the playoffs for the second year in a row. The core group of Klay, Steph, and Draymond are getting older. The next time Steph and Klay will play together Steph will be turning 34 years old. Draymond isn’t the same Draymond that he was when the Warriors won 73 games. That year he shot 38% from the 3, the last two years he has shot 28%, and 27%. It’s hard to blame Draymond last year as it was clear that after Steph got hurt that the Warriors season was already down the drain.

If it’s not the age of the Warriors that will end the dynasty, it might be their salary cap. Between Steph, Klay, and Draymond the Warriors will spend around 100 million on their core 3. That only leaves the Warriors with 9 million in cap space. It’s very clear that the Warriors owners don’t care about going over the cap, but for how long can an owner keep spending on a product that isn’t succeeding?

The key to the Warriors dynasty isn’t Steph, or Klay it’s James Wiseman. If the second overall pick can be a superstar then he will carry on the dynasty that Steph Curry has created. If he is a bust then the Warriors will have wasted a top pick, and have to keep paying him 9 million a year for the next 4 years. No pressure or anything Wiseman, but if you’re a dumpster fire like your teammate Andrew Wiggins then I don’t see the Warriors coming close to another finals appearance with the core group of Draymond, Steph, and Klay.

Regardless if the dynasty is over, it was a fun ride for Warriors fans. I would give my left nut for the Knicks to make a run like Golden State did during the 2010’s.
