As you read this blog just remember that I’m a die hard Eagles fan, so if I seem bias it’s because I am. Alright now that’s out of the way, every Thanksgiving America has to be put through torture as the Cowboys struggle on the field, and Jerry Jones stares out from his suite looking like a damn corpse. Having your Uncle get way to drunk, and having the Cowboys kick off in the afternoon is a yearly tradition that will be forever. Well until that Uncle’s liver gives out, but the fucking Cowboys will still be playing on Turkey day.

First before we give the boot to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving here’s why the Dallas Cowboys play every Thanksgiving. In 1966 the then general manager of the Cowboys Tex Schramm signed the Cowboys up for the holiday game. He wanted to gain more national publicity, and playing on Thanksgiving was the perfect opportunity. Dallas wasn’t always America’s team. Insert Puke Emoji. The game was such a hit that the Cowboys just kept on playing every Thanksgiving. Traditions are cool and all, but just because something has happened since 1966 doesn’t mean that it should keep happening. We’ve learned a little bit since 1966 you know being pregnant and smoking a pack a day isn’t the best for children. Driving around without a seatbelt is now illegal, and having to watch the Cowgirls on Thanksgiving should also be illegal.

The NFL isn’t 15 teams anymore like it was in 1966, there’s 32 teams and America should be blessed with seeing Patrick Mahomes on Turkey day, not Andy Dalton. Every year there is new powerhouses in the league, and the teams that are the best of the best should play on Thanksgiving. It should be an honor to play on the day where every American is stuffing their face with turkey and beer while their pants button is holding on for dear life as they lay around the TV.

The Cowboys haven’t been a powerhouse in 20+ years. In the 26 years of my life I’ve been a fan of football since I was about 8. Since 1998 the Cowboys playoff record is 3-9. They haven’t been past the Divisional round since 1995, that doesn’t sound like a powerhouse. That sounds like a team that is a shit show, and doesn’t deserve to be seen by millions of people every year.

Jerry Jones has to be filling up Roger Goodell’s pockets with cold hard cash, it’s the only reason I have for the Cowboys playing every Thanksgiving. Maybe after Jerry Jones croaks the Cowboys will finally not play every Thanksgiving. The NFL isn’t known to get things right so I wouldn’t count on it.
